Procrastination is the thief of jelly snakes, my friend. As the Bear is currently learning whilst agonising her way through some kind of weird learning system, jauntily named Kung Fu Maths.  The Bear is kicking and whinging her way through it. Epic stuff. Really drawing it out.

She is 100% capable. However, she has decided that the drama is a more interesting place to be than ‘done’. On the other side of done, is a jelly snake and tv.  I’m sure you recognise the scene…the more you put it off, the bigger and more looming the task becomes. The Bear is literally squirming in her seat, sliding off the sofa. She wants it to be oooooveeeerrrrrrrrr.

Me too, Bear. Me too.

But why is she so desperate to avoid simple addition? Because a bit of her is so worried that she’ll get them wrong, that she doesn’t even want to try. So concerned that she won’t do well, that she can’t even put pen to paper. Oh. The. Agony.

Here’s the thing. We all get ourselves into a tizzy sometimes. The potential of f*ucking it up weighs heavier than the glow of sending it out into the world. As Henry Ford said “Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.” And right now, I am staring down the barrel of a Bear glare that doesn’t appreciate this quotable wisdom.

This isn’t just the reserve of six year olds. How many times have you wrapped yourself up in knots because you were so worried about the outcome that you became paralysed and unable to act?

We’ve all been there. More than once. And the thing is, that if we want to create and do and grow, then we’ve also got to be ready for that to happen again…and again…and again…

At these times, the best thing to do is to get your head set, block out the distractions and focus on your goal. Y’know, it doesn’t have to be perfect. One of the best pieces of advice I ever had was that my 7/10 will look to everyone else like 10/10. Done is better than none.

And the Bear, after a spell of quiet concentration she got 15 out of 17…and a jelly snake.
